UK, Ireland / Polish people in an english army [85]

they all say British society looks down on guys who join their military

Well, that's just not true from the experiences I have had.

I agree. Some British Army guys are overly proud. The Poles are better off not entering and fighting for their own country.

They are proud. As they rightly should be. To say that the Poles shouldn't enter isn't right though. Polish and British soldiers have something of a kinship (it may be Scottish soldiers though).

Oh really? And what do YOU have to do with Britain's fighting apart from the COINCIDENCE that you were born as an Englishman??

Actually you should learn that when soldiers join the army in the UK they join the 'British' army. So regardless of whether they are born in England, Scotland, Wales or NI, they are in the British army. Also learn that being in Scottish means you aren't English.

Comming on this forum and anouncing your boyfriends intention to join the regiment is probably not such a good idea.

Actually I doubt this girl cares. She seems to despise the fact that her boyfriend wants to fight for her her country. She'd probably happily give his identity away for a kebab and a £1 bottle of cider.

I wish him luck , its not an easy selection....

So do I. If he ever reads this, all the best and make us proud. :)

Yeah neat edit Wyspianska, glad I caught it in quote though...

NI isn't part of Britain, Misty. It's part of the UK, yes.

It's about one in the same these days. The rules are adjusted to suit, as always.

I said that the Poles are better off not entering. They have their army, they can go there and train.

I know what you said. However, this guy doesn't want to serve with his army. He wants to serve with British army. So as long as he passes all the required tests, let him.

In fact it is true. At least one base last year banned troops from leaving camp in uniform (for shopping trips etc). All because of anti-war feeling from locals.

It's true because of one base? Is this in the UK? If so, tell me, what is the holding political party in that region?

About one in the same, yeah. Just a separate island

They consider NI as part of it all now (at least concerning the army). Here is a quote from the army.mod.uk - British Army Website:

The Army carries out tasks given to it by the democratically elected Government of the United Kingdom (UK).

Its primary task is to help defend the interests of the UK, which consists of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

This seems like a guy who wants all the trimmings of the SAS but knows nothing of the suffering.

The guy has said nothing about it, this is all speculation from his girlfriend, probably after he just casually said he might like to join the British Army. ;)

Language / IS POLISH LANGUAGE'S VULGARALISATION MEDIA-DRIVEN? [23]

I believe that there is more profanity in films and on TV because the writers lack the ability to write an interesting script without it. Looking back at films and TV from a few decades ago, there was absolutely no need for profanity because the writers could write scripts without it.

To be honest I find Polish tv and radio so much more open

It is. When I listen to British radio all the swear words are edited out of songs. Different when I listen to Polish radio, all the swear words are left in.

Russel Brand a few weeks ago was completely hilarious to me

That was more about him calling an old man up and telling him he'd slept with his grand-daughter. I don't think that is acceptable.

before they have mentioned anything else what was happening in the world

Yes there were many more serious things going on in the world at that time but that's British Media for you.

Work / How are nurses graded in Poland and what is their typical salary? [14]

I'm a little surprised that no one answered this thread

So was I.

I was also told that the Polish nurses are fighting for better pay... let's hope they get it, if this is true.

I believe it's bad from what Polish people here tell me. I know one girl who was a nurse in Poland she gets more working in a coffee shop here. I don't really understand the nursing system in Poland so was hoping someone could explain it.

Well, this topic has come up again in my research and as I still haven't found out any significant information about it I would appreciate some help from people who know Poland.

How are nurses graded in Poland?

Well, I've got to include nursing systems in other countries in my next report so it wouldn't hurt to include Poland. Rather than quoting the same old stats from the usual countries it would be interesting to know the wage range of Polish nurses and their grades and salary differences.

I've just done research into the care of the elderly in Poland and it's interesting indeed. More family orientated in Poland compared with USA or the UK.

News / Polish engineer beheaded in Pakistan. [347]

It's time to realise that while the US and UK governments think they are one step ahead of the Taliban and Al Qaeda actually the opposite is true. The Western governments are fond of broadcasting when they foil a plan but when do they ever actually make any positive steps in finishing the Taliban or Al Qaeda? They don't.

The Taliban and Al Qaeda will always be beheading people or blowing them up and sadly, there is not a damn thing the western governments can do about it. Even if they did manage to catch Osama Bin Laden (for example) what does that do to Al Qaeda? Not a thing, because there is always someone else to step into his shoes and so many cells all over the world. It's never-ending.

So now another innocent life is lost. The west kills some Taliban or imprisons them and rightly so but then the west is hurt again with yet another innocent dying. We kill their guilty so they kill our innocent.

The British are always apologists for these pigs

That's an unfair comment and a very strange one. I'm not sure what your reasoning is behind it.

I don't believe Bhenazir Bhutto when she said OBL was killed by Omar Sheikh.

If Osama Bin Laden is dead it's due to his diabetes and not anything else. He was a sick man about two/three years ago and I doubt he got any better.

I can remember cities like Cairo, Islamabad, Beirut literally partying in the streets after 9/11. Jumping up and down with happiness.

Yes I remember that too. Sickened me to the stomach. Your point?

Frankly, I wish they would just get out of the way and stay out of the way.

LOL. Yes you Americans think everything is about you. Do you realise that these groups like Taliban and Al Qaeda just hate the west, so don't take it so personally.

News / Polish engineer beheaded in Pakistan. [347]

Its hard to say. They don't have any moral support of masses in general. Their tactics are threat based. For example, one day some shopkeepers in a multimedia market would get a message to close down their businesses or face the consequences. If they don't comply, they would blow up a shop or two and make their point. So I would say that their tactics are threat based which are not likely to win any hearts and minds. Besides Pakistan is worlds 5th largest country with such a huge level of diversity that its painful.....really. To control such a massive population with threat alone is not likely going to work.

So in answer to SeanBM's question, the Taleban are getting stronger. Why are they getting stronger? Because those shopkeepers are doing what they say and there is no power to stop that. The Taleban aren't out to win hearts and minds, they're out to kill those who they feel are against them whether that feeling is justified or not. If, bit by bit, the Taleban infiltrate Pakistan by blowing up a shop here, a school there, a church here, a hospital there, they can soon control because people will fear going against them in case they are the next to be blown up by them.

Sometimes it doesn't feel like we're living in the 21st century.

Absolutely spot on. Humans really seem to have regressed as a race.

What a horrible death. I remember watching (well only a few seconds - i just couldn't finish it) the beheading of Daniel Pearl. Simply horrible.

I watched Ken Bigely's (apology if name spelling is wrong) death. It was horrible indeed. I didn't watch Daniel Pearl's yet. It's a horrible death indeed. We need to stop it happening to our people.

They demanded some prisoners to be released. Skin them alive now and send the tapes to Al-Jazeera.

Would only result in more deaths for us. Don't believe they care about their own suffering this fate.

I keep being subjected to Polish TV, yet so much of it is not actually Polish. Very little, in fact.

You aren't subjected to it. Turn the channel man!

Yep. Big films these days are actually horrifically bad, incomprehensible how people still get entertained, when batman is the number 1 film you know there is something a miss, utter crap.

A good point.

Love / Polish wedding customs/traditions? Aussie marrying Polish. [21]

We are getting married first here in Australia and he will not have his family here so I would like to make it feel Polish.

Make sure that the reception lasts for one day, then it's Polish. ;)

If his family is not there then you just have to make a nice day, not include pretend Polish'ness'.

Just make sure he enjoys himself and spoil him. ;)

Feedback / Where is PF heading (Site Interface/Design wise) in the future? [21]

What about people who are not quite popular because of their different views and opinions? They can't say what they want just because bunch of sheeps don't like them?

Ah, worried that your opinions would be voted down because you actually annoy people. It's what I thought. If your opinions were interesting and not inflammatory, why would you worry?

News / Poland..wake up to a multicultural world [1059]

There is a difference between what BubbaWoo is talking about "multiculturalism" and "mass immigration".

Being multicultural is having people from all over living and working together and cultures mixing which is a good thing.

However, Sokrates, you're going on about mass immigration which is when countries don't control who enter the country. There is a problem with that in the UK but it's not to do with colour, it's to do with amount.

I should add - I'm all for multiculturalism so it stands to reason there must be migration to bring that into effect.

News / Poland..wake up to a multicultural world [1059]

Correct! Bravo! You're probably the first who get the point i'm making. I'm all for the odd black or muslim but i'm firmly against what UK or Germany is doing, Poland if it opens up should first and foremost open to the east instead of taking in hostile and unproductive minorities.

Not really. A country should accept people who are suitable to be in the country regardless of what colour they are.

News / Poland..wake up to a multicultural world [1059]

Well, there are slums in UK history too. Poverty often causes that more than anything else. You're saying that anyone who is not white cannot be civilised but I have met some pretty uncivilised white people. We could go on like this ALL day but we won't. ;)

Also one more thing, i just found out that St. Georges day parade in London got cancelled because of 'racists' i imagine thats a pretty important day for Brits and they just lost it because of this "flavor" you keep talking about.

Yes there is a problem in the UK that it's gone "Politically Correct" crazy. That's politicians making decisions based on...what? They think people will be offended.

News / Poland..wake up to a multicultural world [1059]

and despite your 4 whole months in england you know nothing about the assimilation of immigrants into the uk. you have drawn conclusions from your unfortunate and self-inflicted experiences

Sokrates, this comment has hit the nail right on the head. Perhaps if your experiences have been different you would have different views. Four months is not enough at all. Did you travel around or remain in the one area?

I have a friend who won't return to Poland because where she lives she sees too much intolerance. She likes the UK for the fact it is more tolerant (about more issues than race). She has friends here from Romania, England, Philippines, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Sweden and France which she enjoys and learns from. She says she wouldn't have this opportunity in Poland (at least where she comes from).

Love / My Polish boyfriend and his drinking habit. [60]

I think i love him help!!!

Well, if you think that love is getting told to clean up puke and being shoved around then you go for it girl!

In reality, I think you know the truth. What exactly DO YOU love about him? What are his good points? Does he have any? He's just goading you with this stuff about how much you should be drinking, he wants some justification for his drinking around you and if you start to drink as much as he does he has that justification.

Dump him and do it soon...

pawian, those posts are most unlike you and I hope they're tongue in cheek or something.

Katy I think you did the right thing. You've been very strong. Keep ignoring him (use the block feature on your phone!) and you're right, you deserve much better than him. Good luck girl! :)

UK, Ireland / Supermarkets in Poland: differences and similarities to the UK. [62]

Oi Attitude,

The girl is just asking for similarities or differences and I notice already one difference in that PD saw those things about the checkouts and Wroclaw described them as cigarette dispensers. So there is a difference.

Also in attitudes, the serving staff. Less helpful in Poland apparently.

but then in sainsbury's they keep changing the bloody layout

Awww poor you. You do realise that they do this so that customer have to search their stores for the product they want and they do this in the hope that when the customer are searching for the desired product they pick up other stuff.

Work / New English 'teacher' in Poland (I have no qualifications). [119]

Not everyone is cut out for teaching.

No, that's right and this guy won't know if he is or isn't until he tries it. Then if he is any good at it, it makes going for the qualification worthwhile. If he's not good or doesn't like it then he didn't waste his time putting himself through the qualification.

The qualification isn't everything, there are teachers with qualifications who are poor teachers. My friends sister and her class have just put in a complaint about their English teacher because the woman is just not interested.

USA, Canada / Good job for Polish in USA [34]

That's a sad story. What is your MA in though? Also I think it depends where you move too. Are you big town/little town or city? It's hard to break into the job market anywhere when you are a new person to that market but especially now, in this climate...good luck for the future. Whilst you have the love of your husband you're always going be a rich girl.

Love / SOS!! I feel a little hopeless with my Polish husband... [58]

This is computer/internet addiction, isn't it?

Yes and quite a bad addiction if he is doing nothing else all day. Sounds like he doesn't have a job either. Is that right eangel?

What was he like when you first met? Was he a different guy? Did he spend as much time on the computer?

what I think you should consider leaving him

That's good advice. He doesn't seem to bother while you are there tending to him all the time. Perhaps if you took yourself out the picture...?
