The richest country in the world with no free health care, what a joke. Im sure you have youre own health insurance so no problem right.

You're interjecting your opinions onto me in order to support your unsupportable contention.

I'll save you the research time: The United States does not have the worst health care system period; end of story...

Here is another fact: Free health care is not free.

I also have no problem what so ever in criticizing my country when I feel the direction of my country is askew.

As for alternatives to the US health care system, that I believe is in need of reform, I've found two model systems:

Singapore & Switzerland - BTW, neither are universal or free.

Not true...

Im used to countries with free health care where the basic right of any individual is to be medically treated by their own country for which they pay taxes in.

If people do not pay taxes are they exempt from health care? I guess we'll find out in America; Obama's wealth redistribution program will test this theory.

Lets look at this question... The affirmation is that there are good wives. The inference is that being Polish makes good wives not so good.

So were looking for some type of cultural (Polish) black mark that reduces a Polish bride into being a not so good wife.

I suspect that the EUdid a great job of throttling the self preservation instinct.

If you have not already read the book A Secret Life: The Polish Colonel, His Covert Mission, And The Price He Paid To Save His Country by Benjamin Weiser may I suggest that you put it on your reading list? This book is wonderful and is an illustration of one man's love for his country.

Poland is better off staying with the EU. Splintering off into a smaller slavic alliance wouldn't be a good idea because EU will always have more influence.

Pardon me if I misread the substance of your statement.

The question to ask is not whether the EU is influencial because of its size but whether the EU is better for the citizenry of its member states.

It's clear that the EMU can be manipulated by the larger members in order to foster their markets.

This is a bad idea folks; whenever the sovereignty of one nation is challenged all nations are challenged.

I remember in history classes hearing how when you too heavily punish an adversary, it sows the seeds for the next war.

You mean like Versailles? This treaty was screwed up from the beginning; sow the seeds of economic disaster while allowing the Germans to build on the thought of betrayal.

WWI psychologically damaged the wrong parties; the French and the British suffered long term effects from their participation in WWI while the seeds of revenge were sown in Germany.

The roles should have been reversed; the Central Powers should have been the ones with the long term effects (loss of the will to fight) while the Allies' should have been the ones to rebuild and repair. (again at a great cost to the victors because of monies diverted to the belligerents who started the war as opposed to using that money to help their own.)

What are your long term plans with Germany?

Unfortunately, monies would have to be spent by the victors (taking that money out of play for the allies' own economies; in fact punishing the victors) to help the belligerent(s) to rebuild.

And when you even with hindsight are not able to be a rival to Hitler's promises in said imaginary referendum how should it had panned out differently???

We're speculating here so while we're at it I'll say that the perfect solution would be for the allies to enforce the Treaty of Versailles: stare down Hitler on rearmament; never sign onto the Anglo-German Naval agreement of 1935 (especially when the Royal Navy had their budget cut through legislation and The Depression.)

(I really doubt threatening any "lessons" would do the trick...)

No, the "lesson" applied to the Central Powers in WWI would be very simple: the complete and utter destruction of those powers infrastructure. These actions would destroy any seeds of revenge because the defeat would have been so physically and emotionally enduring..

In general; it is not a good idea to let a belligerent re-arm.

How long did the French hold out for when Germany invaded? Besides, the French are the French ;)

May 10th 1940 has nothing to do with September 3rd 1939. The French had a clear numerical advantage in men and material.

The book 'To Lose a Battle' by Sir Alistair Horne answers the question you ask. It is all about the will to fight.

After the devastation of WWI certain nations, and I am not judging them, seemed to have lost the will to fight.

I wish politicians would get their heads out of their arses and stop intervening where not necessary and start intervening where necessary.

Intervening where necessary... Seanus, late in WWII do you feel that intervention on the part of the French, British, and the Americans concerning Soviet expansionism was necessary?

There was no big will to deny the Germans their rights of self-determination which was so crudely abused in the treaty of versailles which the majority be then heartily came to dislike too, hence the lack of action...
GB was a democracy and how should London explain it to John Average who sees happy, re-unified Germans that his sacrifice, a war, an invasion is need to keep them unhappy!

The German Army wanted no part of Hitler. The dilemma for Beck was he knew Hitler was leading them down the road to disaster but he could not get support from the masses when Der Fuehrer was conquering lands without a drop of blood being spilled.

why is our Government not focusing on what CAN be achieved??? It is because a positive, reassured Ireland will not vote YES.

There you have it: another sterling example of the power of information. Those who have disseminative capabilities hold great power over the masses.

I think that we lacked experts to analyse what Hitler was doing in 1938 and even before.

Correct me if I am wrong but plenty occurred prior to 1938 to raise questions about the direction of Germany:

In 1935, Hitler violated the Treaty of Versailles by introducing compulsory military service. In the same year, the UK signed the Anglo-German Naval Agreement. In 1936, Hitler reoccupied the demilitarized zone in the Rhineland.

In 1938 there was the little matter of the Anschluss in Austria and the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia.

Do explain how the Red Army was in position to wait for AK fighters emerging from the sewers during 1944 given that the Red Army was on one side of the Wisla and the Uprising was taking place on the other side of the Wisla.

It was the NKVD after the Rising; The ex-insurgents came out of hiding to be capture for questioning if "lucky" or getting a slug put in the back of their head if "unlucky".

The US entered the war at a time which was convenient for them. Britian had held off the onslaught indefinently.

The Soviets killed seven out of ten Germans. The Soviets not only "held off" the Germans the Soviets destroyed the cream of the German forces.

Germany had opened the second front against Russia. Hitler had been defeated in Stalingrad and the 6th army wiped out, the German war machine was beatable in its own back garden.

Von Manstein stabilized the southern front using his famous 'Backhand Stroke'. The war in the East was hardly settled after Stalingrad.

Then Hitler declared war on USA. Finally when the US realised that Germany was at its weakest point since the outbreak they finally jumped in.

Germany was weakest in February 1943 (Kasserine Pass)?

Hardly a courageous commitment when stripped down.

Though disgusted with Roosevelt the word "courage" is hardly appropriate when some 400,000+ Americans gave their lives in battle.

At the time the US wasn't obligated to do anything.

This is not accurate. The Declaration by United Nations specifically the Atlantic Charter identified eight points. One of those eight is: 'Territorial adjustments must be in accord with the wishes of the peoples concerned.'

The truth is the United States WAS obligated. Instead of working as an ally with Churchill, FDR went out of his way to belittle Churchill in front of Stalin.

It was up to Britain to show leadership. Britain failed.

Unfortunately, Churchill did not have an honest partner in Roosevelt.

And what did the USA do? Do you think Churchill had any real influence over Stalin at Yalta?

The fate of Poland was sealed at the Tehran Conference.
