News / Pope's would-be killer wants to move to Poland [36]

Could you share your personal experience of Polish and American prisons with us please, Puzzy, so that we may understand the basis on which you make this statement.

News / Poles learning from the British? [42]

The Poles invented Wodka so they know how it should be experienced. The Brits nicked tea from India and ruin it by putting milk in it. Innit!

Whilst the Brits undeniably took tea from India and introduce it to the civilised world I think there will be lively debate about where wodka actually originated. Innit!

News / Polish teachers on Strike. [62]

Thanks for taking the time to give a firsthand account of the teachers' strike and the reasons for it - appreciated

Its interesting what you say about the Teachers Carta - you give the impression that teachers are striking to preserve it whilst you appear adamantly against it.

Can you provide an explanation why there are so many who appear in favour of keeping it

(Do you remember the scandal last year with the teacher who ordered kids to repeat loudly: Columbus was Polish

LOL now why am I not suprised by this !!! ;)

You're right. I don't like it when Poles tell me what I should or shouldn't mix my vodka with but at the same time I do give credence to their superior knowledge.

Afterall, the Polish stereotype is one of a vodka swilling expert, just as the British stereotype is of tea sipping expertise. So it would be a little presumptious of me, a Brit, trying to tell a Pole how to drink vodka.

True Matyjasz. But we should conceed to those who have superior knowledge than us. Or is that too gross a generalisation for you?

What has riding a bicycle on the motorway got to do with the price of eggs?

UK, Ireland / Huge Fuel Protest In Britain [9]

It's been said that the government can afford to lower the price by 12p a litre and STILL make a profit

It's been said that the government can afford to lower the price by 12p a litre, STILL make a profit AND fund an expensive war

They won't do it because they want us off the roads

Seems that way

I am delighted that I have given you the satisfaction of falling for your little ploy and pleased for you that you are able to find amusement in such trivial matters.

Allowing you to continue your tea drinking education this is a basic guide for which should be drunk with or without:

Assam India with or without
Ceylon Uva with or without
Ceylon Dimbula with or without

Kenyan with

The rest, including Oolong, Lapsang Souchong and Darjeeling should be drunk without

I am a coffee drinker, which can be drunk with or without milk in most countries of the world without people making sweeping generalisations about etiquette.

Fortunately :)

Of course youre entitled to give your opinion Sunny Jim, but as you have no doubt been told before, being entitled to an opinion doesnt make it right.

Now, as anyone who knows anything about tea drinking will tell you, there are some teas that should be drunk with milk and some that shouldn't. Making sweeping generalisations one way or the other is just plain wrong.

Thank you for pointing out where the logout button is. I suggest if you don't like people commenting on your posts you use it yourself.

what a sweeping generalisation and showing limited knowledge of how tea and coffee should be drunk

News / Polish teachers on Strike. [62]

Its seems that teachers are underpaid across the board. There were grumblings at the Exeter IATEFL about just who badly ELT workers are exploited. Is that the case for you Seanus?

UK, Ireland / Free housing for Poles in the UK? [29]

In a few months I'm going to the UK to work as a dog breeder, how may I get free housing ?

Its possible they will let you sleep with the dogs, if you ask nicely and promise to clean the toilets. Which house, I have more than 1?

Travel / Tips for travel with 1 year old needed [17]

Do you have kids if not then you are not qualified to even respond.

Not having kids of one's own provides one with an unbiased and objective view of just how annoying they can be, especially other peoples'.

Love / My polish girlfriend has changed following death of dad.. [153]

pal, at the end of the day, it isnt my girlfriend who is distant and angry or asking me for space, its yours. If you cant understand why, perhaps this is your problem that you need to address

And just as part of your learning process, if you come on to a public forum and ask for advice, dont get upset when people tell you youre a pillock

Love / My polish girlfriend has changed following death of dad.. [153]

Being a man child is good, no ?

Apparently, not it would seem.

He seems to be winding his girlfriend up with his selfish attitude

Get a grip on reality

Dude

if you could read and its pretty evident you cant i was asking to understand her situation and her traditions

Listen you self absorbed little boy, your girlfriend whom presumambly you care about, lost her father a month ago... which isnt exactly a long time. Rather than worrying about if she might leave you (which she probably will if you carry on being so selfish) why dont you do whatever you can to support her through her grief which, by the sound of it, involves leaving her alone to deal with it in her own way

Study / anyone with CELTA? [73]

they say the Trinity TESOL is fine, too. but min 2 years experience (teaching English as a foreign language).

Is the 2 years experience only for holders of Trinity or does this also apply to the CELTA?

to find someone with such qualifications willing to work here...

Its entirely possible but it is also an idea to use sites specifically for recruiting teachers. It might also be an idea to mention if the job requires an immediate start or if its for next academic year

Study / anyone with CELTA? [73]

I havent come across many schools that would argue the content of CELTA to be so drastically different from TCL Cert TESOL that they would only consider the former. Even the BC, supposed paragon of TEFL, now recognises TCLs course as being on par with the CELTA and TI courses (by some clever relationship marketing) can claim BC recognition.

As TI started life as a TCL centre, and based their programme on the TCL course plus a few appropriate modifications, its difficult to argue that one is much different from the other.

My point about continents is one of recognition. As the courses are to all intent and purpose the same (taking into account obvious minor differences), it invariably boils down to whether a particular course is known or not. The OP has heard of the CELTA but not other courses which I imagine is why they have requested it.

Study / anyone with CELTA? [73]

The neasrest comparison is the Trinity Cert. TESOL. Whilst TEFL International actually issues more graduation certificates than Trinity, it is not quite as recognised as them in Europe and has a much stronger presence in Asia.

If you want someone fully cert qualified then most 4 week 120 hr + 6 hr TP should be fine.
