Perfume - fine in moderation but whenever a person (male or female) wears more than a spritz I find it nauseating. Plus, when I'm being 'intimate' with a guy, the last thing I'd want is him tasting chemicals off my skin.

If you read my post you would know that I said there is nothing wrong with taking care of yourself. Being clean, smelling nice and dressing well is great, but it is not a necessity to attract guys (even the successful ones). No man that has any self confidence will give a rat's a$$ if you have a fresh manicure or not. I used to love mani's when I was a teen but then I read an article about the disgusting things it does to your nails after extended use and now I paint them a few times a year.

A girl can pick up a guy without wearing a cute dress, or any of those things. No offense to the men out there, but its not exactly rocket science.

Btw, if you really want to know, I'm an attractive city girl, from a very well off family. I don't need any makeovers to attract men. Sure, I get lots of attention when I'm dressed up, rather than when I'm wearing jeans and a sweater, but I couldn't care less because I choose the men I date - they don't choose me. Get what I'm sayin'?

No it's mainly for yourself. I stated it on my first post. That a woman should take care of herself etc. :)

i'm a city girl too...and i take care of myself... but i do it for myself, it makes ME feel good... every guy who is interested only in looks, i consider as a jerk...

Same here. Apparently JJ thinks that because I believe that spending too much time on looks means I live on a farm with hairy legs! LOL. And I'm the ignorant one. :)

Well, I'd say that every guy I have known has never bothered at all about whether I have a manicure/pedicure daily or every second day. The reality is this - nail-polish is infact, unhygienic. I work in a health care environment and I did an audit last year that concluded that people in my job had to wash their hands over 100 times per day. Manicure would be a complete waste then.

Plus, even when I have had a manicure never has a guy said to me "oh darling I just love your nails!". Frankly, I'd be worried if they even noticed.

I completely agree with you. I do not know many straight men that actually notice painted nails lol. I know some that find it atrocious (it reminds them of cheap hookers) but I do not know that many that actually go out of their way to notice it.

lmao :/ that's true. But my friends randomly say to me, "ohh i see you did your nail heheh nice ahaha"(this or that) like playing around and stuff, they seem to like women with nice hands. And it is so true what you said before. Nail Polish is harmful if you constantly use it. I personally do not pain my nails at all.

hmmmm weird. We have something in common! We both get compliments on having nice hands despite not (usually) wearing nail polish.

You know whats funny? The reason I attacked your post originally was because I thought you were a guy. Your name is pretty unisex on here and I rarely check the gender status which was why I was so pissed about what you wrote. I still don't agree with you on a lot of things, but it makes me feel better knowing that you're not a guy saying that a woman needs to do this and this and this in order to remain attractive.

Funny, I was just thinking that you're stupid or ignorant, darling. Nothing wrong with sanitation, but when you're spending so much time getting yourself ready for a man, he'll be out talking to women that use their brains. It doesn't matter how pretty you are, because when you get married and have kids, the husband isn't just going to stare at you and be amazed at how pretty you are.

I think that you're the one living in the Pre-historic era. Pampering yourself so that men find you attractive, isn't exactly modern.

So far, I haven't had any problems attracting real men that aren't bums, and I don't paint my nails every other day. My ex was an engineer and he had no complaints about the way I look :)

There's nothing wrong with wanting to feel pretty/beautiful but there's no reason to overdo it. A lot of the guys that you're hoping to attract will find you nothing more than a brainless trophy. If thats what you want, go for it.

yes....i checked.... 'no' itself means yes or well... but when combined with other words, means different stuff....

'No' means 'yes' has got to be my fave Polish mistake. I do this sometimes after speaking to my parents or relatives in Polish and forget to 'turn off the switch' and sometimes say no to non-Polish people when I mean yes. Oops :)

When Polish says absolutnie it means no
When English says actually it means in fact

My mom does this all the time :)

sure, normal thing, but questions aren't the basic thing, you can't show your girl *ample?* list of questions on first date, sometimes the answer appears without asking, and this is the most sensitive way :)

If a guy didn't ask me any questions I would take it as a bad sign that he's not interested. It would be the same if I were talking to a guy and not asking him any questions. I can see what you mean though, not to bombard someone with questions because that can be annoying too!

Too much. Any guy that expects that doesn't live in the real world and any woman who actually does that obviously doesn't work for a living and spends too much worrying about the outside and not concentrating on what's on the inside (which is far more important).

Its pretty ridiculous to expect that. I understand wanting a girl to take care of herself, but not to the extent that thats all she does.

I also would like to add that painting one's nails so frequently is horrible for the nail. So JJ, if you'd really like to know....When a woman paints her nails for a long period of time, the chemicals in the nail polish turn the actual nail yellow. I hope you never see your ideal woman without nail polish on because it won't be pretty!

How to make any guy fall for you? Be yourself, it's the only way it can work. :)

Best relationship advice ever. Only an idiot (no offense JJ) will actually expect you to keep up with perfection - something that doesn't exist in the first place.

IMO, its intrinsically linked.

As for your answer, I think its up to the girl to defend herself. Why on earth would she need a guy to say what she can say for herself. I've had a similar situation (don't know his nationality, all I know is that he was white trash) and I gave him a piece of my mind and then he called me a b*tch, that I'm not that 'good' and walked away. I couldn't care less what he thought. At the end of the day, the guy is a stranger that she probably won't see again, so no need to get so freaked out about it.

calling it an 'Eastern European' thing is still lumping it together, IMO. You don't have to specifically say Polish, Lith, etc... but when you claim that this is an aspect of "Eastern European" culture, thats more or less the same thing.

i.e if you found a post that was lumping all UK people together and saying, oh I don't mean England, Scotland or Wales specifically, I just mean that its a 'UK' thing, I'm sure you wouldn't be too happy about that either.

In parts of India widows are burnt to death because they're husbands have died and their existence no longer has any purpose. Patriarchy exists everywhere.

Food / A Polish Soup-What is the name? [16]

My grandmother made a soup that contained cabbage, tomatoes and sour cream (and I don't know what else)? Would anyone know what soup that would be and any other ingredients that went in it. There was no meat.

Possibly its a form of Kapuśniak, which is cabbage soup. My mom has made it with tomatoe paste before, so it could be the one you're talking about. I'd love to be of more help to you but I have no clue what else goes in there or how its made.

Every country/ethnic groups thinks it's superior to other groups! It's called nationalism.

Its kind of ridiculous actually, but that's definitely true! This is especially true of European nations that pride themselves on their ancestor's historical achievements.

Find me an Italian that doesn't think Italy is the best place, has the best women, best food, best culture etc....
Same thing with a French person, or a Dutch person, or a Polish person.
I mean you'll find some people that aren't very nationalistic, but I doubt that would be the norm.

America is pretty notorious for this also.

My Polish friends call it 'British Arrogance' for example when i tell them how much i like england and how England provides a good place fo people to come and get educated they say that i'm being arrogant and thats not true at all. then five minutes later i here them talking about the muslims and russians like their apes compared to the Polish, how confusing!!

I think that notions of 'British Snobbery' or 'British Arrogance' are associated with the nation's history of colonization. The very concept of colonization is based on the concept that X nation is better than Y nation, therefore we have a right to take over. However, colonialism officially ended in the 1960s and other nations have been slowly recovering from this idea of Britain as an 'evil colonizer'. These days, its more about America's imperial policies and notions of supremacy that has a lot of nations in the world p*ssed off.

First of all I would like to thank Panienka for her insight into the system of polish schools.

In Ontario it was pretty much the same where most children used to finish high school at age 19. Then they got rid of the 5th year of high school in order to save some moolah and 18 is the average age when kids finish school (unless their bday is later in the year, then they're 17). I was in the first class where they got rid of the extra grade, and I have to say that I wasn't too happy about it. I wasn't ready for anything at 18 and wouldn't have minded the extra year in high school. Now that I'm finishing Uni, I can't wait for law school because once again, I'm not ready to throw myself into the job market.

In grade 10, they introduced this new course called "Career Studies" where they made you do a bunch of useless tests and little projects to help you decide what you want to do with your life. Most 15/16 year olds don't know what they'll be doing next week, never mind 'when they grow up'. It wasn't very surprising that most students didn't take this course seriously.

Besides If he left when he was 16 then that must have been before "registration of pre-conscripts" (which happens when a guy is 18 years old) so the army probably doesn't even know that he exists

Thats what I was thinking too. The wojsko thing starts when they're 18, and this guy will be 25 now. I doubt he'll be snatched up as soon as he gets there, especially if he's considered a visiting American-Polish person.

About the canadian thing thats a very broad generalization about the difficulty level of classes in the US compared to canada. My high school was one of the best in cali with many of its grads going to HBYS schools. I lived in a pretty international part of town and went to school with a few Canadians. They went from being top students in their Ontario high school to being B and C students at my high school. It really depends on wat school you are in.

I know, I meant to say many. I was actually surprised at some of them (ie Columbia).

I don't know about your school (I don't even know where you went) but I do know that this is a common practice for many law schools. The reason I started to look into it was because I know so many people that went to the US for those reasons. I'm thinking about a few schools in Miami, for obvious reasons :)

grade point average at Uni - school smart doen's mean life smart, or does it?

I think it depends a lot on the person. I know some people that have very high GPAs in school but are pretty much retarded in life. But then, there are many that had high GPAs and are successful in many aspects of life. Its the same thing as saying that all people that do poorly in school are successful in life or 'life smart' - possibly true, but not necessarily .

I love Poland because....of the beautiful sunsets and shooting stars! (at least in the country)

Plus, if your girlfriend only does things on YOUR impulses (cook, clean,...the other thing) than she can't be that smart.
