News / Putin for Polish president? [69]

If don't like him, you would at least have to respect the job he's done.

Done and done, Wahldo.

Love / BLACK GUYS POLISH WOMEN [809]

I didn't say anything about rules. I'm simply saying, as are you, that if there is a "Black culture" it is unbelievably broad. My point was, that if Hip Hop was to represent "the Black experience", then it isn't doing a very good job. Masks said earlier that while he enjoys hip hop, people are fascinated to find that he does not own a gun. He was joking, but it's not that far off. A lot of people get their only impression of this so-called "Black culture" from Hip Hop music and therefore are given an impression, certainly from mainstream Hip Hop, that "being Black" is about being violent and hypersexual. If that's the case than call me wrong, but I wouldn't suppose so.

News / Putin for Polish president? [69]

As I said, Putin was successful. Russia is a great nation once again, so in that I wont argue, but, just like America, Russia must ask herself if she wants to use her power for good, or just be international bullies.

I guess my real question is; "What is Black culture?" I mean, like any group, many of its members have different values and sentiments, why do we contribute things as "being Black?" Can I, as a white person, not like jazz? Or soul? I certainly do. And is it not possible for a Black man to enjoy country and western music? Or blue grass? Why do we pigeonhole people when each member of each group, and the human race for that matter, is different. Just easier, I guess.

Also, I want to clarify that I wasn't suggesting that Hip Hop be considered "white culture" or any sillyness like that, just simply saying that we like to think we understand the "minority experience" when the only experience we can truly understand is our own.

News / Putin for Polish president? [69]

There is no question that Putin was technically "successful" in the way he took Russia from powerless to powerful. But to answer the posts question, a resounding no, I would not like Putin or anyone like him to be Poland's president or President of any nation I know or love. To echo, isthatu, there are right ways to do things and wrong ways. As an American, I am proud to live in a powerful country, however, it is one thing to be powerful and worthy of pride and quite another to be powerful and worthy of shame. Russia can be put in that category more often than not (that may be the pot calling the kettle black a bit, especially lately, and to be sure recent America gives us less and less to be proud of, still...). Putin's "results" are hardly worth the cost in dignity and civilisation.

Why is Hip-hop considered "Black culture" when 90% of it's audience is white?

History / Poland and Lithuania [161]

From what I understand, Poles have a warm but complicated relationship with Lithuania. Together, the two countries formed one of the most powerful nations in Europe and now, they scarcely have anything to do with each other. There is some bitterness becuase some Poles saw Lithuania deserting them and hitching their wagon to Russia, but all and all, I'd say Poles have a deep respect for Lithuania, as their histories intertwine so.

News / Polish leftist/radical culture... [38]

I made no point. I was simply answering a question. No political slant, just pointing out that Jaruzelski would not be considered a leftist. I shouldn't think THAT statement is controversial.

Life / Why can't Poland recruit Polish soccer stars? [42]

there are very few foreign athletes that compete for USA

I said foriegn roots, meaning blacks and whites. If we just took "natural" Americans it would be nothing but Hopi and Iriqouis tribes and last I checked Lacrosse isn't a Olympic sport.

USA likes to be represented by its citizens

So does Poland, that's why Roger became a citizen. Listen, I hear what you're saying; would it be nice if Poland could make up a superteam of "natural" Poles, of course but that doesn't seem to be the case so I'm all for the best available squad.

Life / Why can't Poland recruit Polish soccer stars? [42]

Yeah, Brazil sucks at futbol. not a 3rd world country

That was missewa's assertion, not mine.

Listen, Poland fielded its side with nothing but Polish citizens. If America discounted any athlete with foriegn roots, we wouldn't have much of a trophy case, now would we? Poland's national team is putting the best available players on the pitch, with the best available coach. The amount of complaining for a team that made it's first EURO this year is ridiculous.

I believe he's refering to General Wojciech Jaruzelski, the communist military man who declared martial law in 1981 as a right-wing reaction to Solidarity. He would be considered the opposite of what you're talking about.

What cheating? Roger joined fair and square. I approve of Poland fielding the best possible side, if that means foriegn players, that's the way it must be.

But that's one person! He doesn't speak for blacks. If we judged races by their worst members than all whites would be Hitlers, wouldn't they?

Why is it white people are called racists because they prefer not to date people of a different colour or a completely different cultural background, when in fact I know of no black girls who have ever dated or would even consider dating a white guy, I have never seen a black girl with a mixed race baby or indeed seen any asian girls with a white guy or a mixed raced baby.

Perhaps you would if you step out of the cave every so often. Perhaps you should ask yourself "why" before you make your generalizations.

Britain is great. My favorite thing about her is her subject's ability to pick up sarcasm. A funny people, those Britains.

Genealogy / people who had grandfathers fight the war [12]

My grandfather, Alvin Renkoski, fought in Europe during World War II. He fought for America and didn't do any fighting in Poland but he was in a regiment that was mostly made up of American children of Polish immigrants (like himself). All of the soldier's parents could only read in Polish and none of the soldiers could write in Polish except for Papa. So my Granddad would take dictation of all the soldiers to write letters in Polish to their parents back in Missouri, USA. He died a few years back and that story is the principle reason I'm learning Polish right now. After he passed only my Babcia can speak it, and no one in my family can read it or write it. I'm doing what I can to see that Polish doesn't die in the Renkoski family here in the States.

USA, Canada / New York trip suggestions [56]

Why there is so much grease in patatoes served with breakfast?

Because they taste better this way. Plus, you don't get to be the fattest nation on Earth without a little extra grease.

Glad you enjoyed your trip, Miranda. Welcome back.

i was curious about how europeans felt about racially mixed relationships. from what i read so far, poland is not that much different from america, some people are cool with it, some people are not.

You've got it about right. I'm afraid there are small minded people all over, even in my beloved Poland. Good luck to you and enjoy your trip. What are you going for?

UK, Ireland / Anti-Polish sentiment of England [253]

Actually the topic was and is "Anti-Polish sentiment of ENGLAND." You brought up Mexico. As I've said before, you and I disagree. I'd just as soon do this gracefully but that appears impossible.

I distrust now because some illegals jacked up my car with screwdrivers when I wouldn't pay them for washing my windshield! They just ran up to me at a damn stoplight! I had had my car washed the day before! I don't give out $ just because!

That's between you and those individuals. I was ripped off by a white mechanic it doesn't mean that whites are greedy and dishonest.

Here, I found another link that might illuminate a little better for you if you want to play that game. americanapparel.net/presscenter/articles/20030601immigration.html
