Wincenty is the Polish equivalent of the Christian masculine name Vincent. It came into all languages from the Latin Vincentius, derived from the verb to conquer. The words victor and victory are also derived from that root.

There was a " Wincenty Witas" who served two terms as prime minister of Poland in the late 1920's. He was born in the village of Wierzchoslawice near Tarnow and the house he was born in is now a small museum which can be visited.
