Does anyone know if anyone related to Anne Kaninski is still around? She's my grandmother and I am left without positively any trace of her sisters or their sons or daughters

If it's Kaminski, and it sounds like it should be. Was it her maiden name (name prior to marriage) or was it her married name ? Also, are you sure her first name is actually Anne ? could it be something similar beginning with 'A' but more a Polish Christian name ?

It would have been Kaminska as well (female usually ends with the 'a' and the male with the 'i'. I have relatives with that surname. But we are in the UK. I notice you are in USA.

Do you have any more information ? How old would your grandmother be ? Bit of a long shot but maybe there is some connection. I'm not sure how common the name 'Kaminski/Kaminska is in Poland etc.

Kaminksi (if thats what it should be) is her maiden name. As for her first name, I'm pretty sure that it was Anne... if it was a more Polish Christian name i wouldnt know, and i have no way of finding out really since my mother is not around to provide me that information; and my brother can't really remember the majority of things i wanna know about her :(

As for how old she would be, I'm uncertain, but i'm thinking at the very least in her 70's or 80's at this time. She looked at the very least 50 yrs old in a picture i saw of her that was taken before i was born. but as I said, i'm uncertain.

Kaminksi (if thats what it should be) is her maiden name.

it would have ended with an 'A' i.e. Kaminska !

It isn't one of our relations because the female married into that name although her initial was A and age wise was the sort of age you are referring too! She had two children , one boy and one girl. Maybe someone else can help by gving you some pointers as to where to do some research ? If you are in the USA then it is far easier to trace people than it is in the UK or in Poland.

Have you looked on your Mothers birth certificate (if it is your Mothers, mother ?) because your grandmothers full name will be in there. If it is your Fathers Mother obviously the same advice will apply.

At least then you will have your grandmothers full name which will be a great start I think ?

and I just googled the name Kaninski and there are Kaninski's about in the UK. So that surname could well be the correct one.....;)

Kaminski or Kaninski..at the end of the day you will need her marriage cert which should be easy to suss if married in the UK..If it was her maiden name the cert will give her father's full name and occupation...if he was born before April 1901 might be able to trace him back on census returns,

There are only 5 peopel named Kaniński in Poland and all must be loners, widows, widowers, old maids or bachelors, because they live in 5 different cities acorss Poland.

By comparison there are nearly 88,000 Kamińskis.
