LondonChick 31 | 1,133 21 Mar 2008 / #121SouthOf - I'm now going to read your posts with a Brummy accent in my head.On that note, I'm off to make beans and toast for my lunch... with a nice big dolop of HP :P
Seanus 15 | 19,674 21 Mar 2008 / #122I know a bit about Birmingham as I worked with a guy for a couple of years, whose family is from there.McLeish now at the helm, not doing a great job, but also not getting the rub of the green. It'd be good to hear a few positives about Birmingham, as all we hear is London this and London that. No offence LondonChick.
LondonChick 31 | 1,133 21 Mar 2008 / #123No offence LondonChick. Not at all. It'd be good to hear a few positives about Birmingham, as all we hear is London this and London thatActually I'm a big fan of Brum... (and Jeff Lynne, but that's another story). Mr LC spent a bit of time working there a few years ago, so we spent a couple of weekends there.I loved the Mailbox / Brindley Place... some really good restaurants and bars. I also enjoyed the Ikon gallery and there was some pretty good shopping too (this was before the new Selfridges... I bet its even better now LOL).
SouthOfDaThames - | 87 21 Mar 2008 / #124It'd be good to hear a few positives about Birmingham, as all we hear is London this and London that.I like it, even though it looks like Warsaw lol, but then I like Warsaw as well, so it's all good innit.
Seanus 15 | 19,674 21 Mar 2008 / #125Jeff Lynne of ELO, right? He's cool. I can't believe bit** was edited from the random abuse thread but kurwa wasn't. Bit** is not that strong thrown with standard intonation. Kurwa is going out of fashion a bit in Poland as it is less cool to swear. Not only I have noticed thatSo, Brummies?
PolskaDoll 28 | 2,099 21 Mar 2008 / #126I really wish that pierogie would take off in London... like a "pret a pierogi"lol - I'm with you there. Well, as long as it took off elsewhere too...London is a bit far just for a snack ;)

z_darius 14 | 3,965 31 Mar 2008 / #130I heard that it is Polish custom for topping pizza with ketchup as opposed to tomato sauce.Ketchup is a sauce.
Zgubiony 15 | 1,553 1 Apr 2008 / #131Ketchup is a sauceAnd way different from Ketchup in the US. Our ketchup would taste horrible on pizza, but the PL ketchup tastes ok on it.
Zgubiony 15 | 1,553 1 Apr 2008 / #133There's is a different taste. A little bit sweeter than our salty ketchup. What can I say? I'm racist towards US ketchup:)
sledz 23 | 2,250 1 Apr 2008 / #134Its thicker in the USand why would anybody put ketchup and corn on a pizza????
polishgirltx 1 Apr 2008 / #135and why would anybody put ketchup and corn on a pizza????for the same reason why people make pbsj sandwiches..... yucks...

amberwash - | 2 21 Apr 2008 / #142well when i was in szczecin, pizza hut was there, and they had just opened up mcdonalds. and kfc. when we would travel towards the south more, they had taco bell, pizza hut and kfc all in the same building, but you can only find them in the bigger cities.
ana0j_11 - | 1 28 Apr 2008 / #143what people likes among mcdonald pizza hut and kfc in poland??___________jessier barranco
wozzy 8 | 206 30 Apr 2008 / #144they had taco bell, pizza hut and kfc all in the same building, but you can only find them in the bigger cities.Ah yes but there is a Pizza Hit in Oswiecim............That slayed me.
OP Guest 30 Apr 2008 / #145All the mexican food I have tried in Poland is disgusting but hey if it has corn in it it must be mexican right? Oh and cabbage with fajitas is just plain wrong!!The only real mexican food I eat in Poland is from my kitchen.Carne Asada, pico De galo, Guacamole.... Taquitos MMMmmmm.....I have to get the corn tortillas, Habinaro sauce and refried beans shipped from the US though.Cali boy in Poznan.
cyg 5 | 119 30 Apr 2008 / #146I understand your pain. I wish there was somewhere to get decent Mexican food myself. But are you serious about shipping refried beans from the States? Are you looking for a special variety or something, or are they just plain kidney beans? And Habanero sauce is available in specialty shops in Warsaw, so my guess Poznan shouldn't be too far behind. Warsaw Tortilla Factory has apparently started making corn tortillas, though I've only seen them made into tortilla chips so far.
BubbaWoo 33 | 3,506 30 Apr 2008 / #147strangely enough there was a reasonable mexican place on monte cassino about 12 years ago. didnt last long as i think only me and my german friend ate there. shame. its all gone down hill since then. the one in the crazy house tries, but as you say, cabbage with fajitas just aint right.
bookratt 6 | 85 30 Apr 2008 / #148I agree, a lot of what people mistakenly label as "American" or "American junk food" is pretty bad for you. But a lot of it does taste pretty good. Most of it comes from other cultures and is changed due to not getting the right ingredients that they were used to back home. Then from there, it gets adulterated into the fast-food versions. But almost none of it is actually American in origin.I wish Polakowski in Kazimierz would become a chain--cheap, good food. A lot of of simple Polish food.Best pizza I have had here in Krakow is Pizzeria Rewolucja in the Borek Falecki area, the one in the streets back behind Solvay Park Mall off Zakopianka. They have a website:pizzeriarewolucja.pl/index.php?mod=promocjeBest "fast food" Polish food I have had is from a little mini-bar on Kosciukowski Street, back in the same area, off Zakopianka. Their bigos, golabki, lasanki, krokieti and uszka z miesem are good--and fairly cheap. Good deserts, too and everything made fresh daily. You can dine in or carry out. (Sorry--I don't have the Polish letters for the correct characters for the l).
OP Guest 30 Apr 2008 / #149Well as far as the refried beans in the states you can get dehydraded refried beans that are very very good much better than canned. I brought 3 cases with me to Poland, I still have a years supply. I have yet to find any good hot sauce in Poznan. Luckily my job brings many co-workers here for short trips, they always bring me tortillas, hot wing sauce, Daves total insanity sauce, and real Bar-B-Q sauce. And sometimes Crown Royal (-:Next I guess I have to grow my own Cilantro (korinader) because the stores here seldom have it.If I was in Warsaw I could go to the Embassy Commisary and get many things but it's rather a long trip for groceries.Going to the USA in June will bring an empty suitcase to fill with food stuffs and some clothing without rediculus graphics and writing all over them.
BubbaWoo 33 | 3,506 30 Apr 2008 / #150I brought 3 cases with me to Poland, I still have a years supplybrilliant... we'll be round for dinner at 7 sharp :-)
